Review:
Dark. Dark. Dark. This story really shows the emotions brought on after a mother has a child with whom she had absolutely no emotional attachment with, no connection & feels like she can't love him no matter how hard she tried. And her distorted version of the monster inside of her son that her husband & everyone else cannot see, but she tries to convince herself that it's not the truth. The movie flashes back & forth between present day Eva & periodically throughout Kevin's life. Director Lynne Ramsey & her crew did an incredible job of perfectly casting actors to portray Kevin at each age group. Ones that can all maintain the same levels of intensity, his detachment from his mother & general surroundings. The way that he plays off his father to play emotional & mental mind games with his mother, even at an early age. John C. Reilly brought a genuine, soft warmth to the story without having to be his usual goofy self. He does a great job in dramatic, less comedic roles, always has, but this one is by far his best. Ezra Miller, who plays teenaged Kevin is so dark & evil, he was perfectly cast in this role. Tilda Swinton really does give the the performance of a life time. The way she portrays a woman, lost in her own emotions, or lack of emotions towards her own son through her attempts to prove that she's does love him in a non convincing manner was amazing. Her performance throughout makes this film powerful & intense look into the psyche of a mother lost & an sociopath son. Incredible climax & ending to the film. SEE THIS FILM!
