Review:
The brainchild of Family Guy & American Dad creator Seth MacFarlane..... & that is exactelly what it is. But that is exactelly what I expected. Pretty much a film that Seth could say & do all the things I'm assuming Fox wouldn't let him put in his TV shows. It runs along the same comedic formula as a Family Guy or American Dad episode. That being said there were several big laughs, they were few & far between however. For every big laugh, there were 4 forced attempts at references & dumb jokes. Now I think my main problem with this was that it follows the same formula as most comedic films of the past few years which is that you take a pop culture reference from your (the director/writer) childhood, then make it a running joke that you run into the ground & attempt to make it popular. Sometimes this includes a cameo where you make the person do something they wouldn't do like make them act all crazy, or evil or even show off their acting ability (Lou Ferrigno in I Love You, Man). This one does this, making a cameo from the past (not going to spoil who) & make him act like a complete crazy asshole. The animation on Ted is actually very well done, possibly the best CGI incorporated into a real life film. The acting wasn't bad. Seth MacFarlane at times is mocking himself with some dumb jokes. Mark Wahlberg is his usual self, confused but handsome, although he is not aging very well. Mila Kunis is hot & pretty good, not as much of a comedic role from her. The supporting cast is loaded with Seth's Family Guy/American Dad cast & his friends. Giovanni Ribisi plays the role he was born to play, a scummy creep. The plot was good, did run slightly long & did sort of repeat the same storyline over & over throughout. Movie did run a tiny bit long, especially for a comedy with one character telling all the jokes. Overall it was very funny at times, but for a guy who's demographic is males 12-30, quite a few of these jokes are above a lot of the people who will see this films heads. Cameo appearances from Ryan Reynolds & Sam Jones.

I thought the CGI of Ted was great as well. Giovanni Ribisi was creepy as shit and I did enjoy the little bits of Ryan Reynolds.
ReplyDeleteI did not think Mark could pass for a 35 year old. You are right, he is not aging well, yet still so handsome.
I laughed my ass off in this movie.
