Review:
Not at all the movie I expected it to be, especially considering it is a Woody Allen movie. Granted I have only seen a handful of his films, it still surprised me as to the plot of this one. It's almost a mid life crisis of sorts for Owen Wilson's character, not sure that he wants to get married & live in Pasadena & do re-writes for films, he is constantly wishing he was living in a more interesting & full of life time during the 1920's. Now I will say as a man under 50, this film is full of legendary writers, painters & happening people from that time frame, however most of them I only knew OF them not who they are. It was also a history lesson in it's self because I had no idea that Pablo Picasso was even alive during that time frame. Owen Wilson was actually really good because he was not quite his usually annoying self. Granted he was still playing the role of a slightly paranoid guy who gets overly excited for everything. Rachel McAdams goes back to her Mean Girls roots & is so believable as a total bitch of a fiance. Great cast of role characters especially Michael Sheen & the smaller roles played by Kurt Fuller & Mimi Kennedy. The cast of the 1920's characters was portrayed by some great actors. Kathy Bates is very solid as usual. Tom Hiddleston (Loki of Avengers) & Alison Pill were really great as the Fitzgerald's. Carey Stoll completely stole the screen as Ernest Hemingway, who was the only one of the 1920's cast that I actually knew who he was before hand. Super underrated character actor. It was incredibly well written, really good laughs, glad it was considered for some Oscars although it didn't win. Love Marion Cotillard, she is a super babe in everything. Rachel McAdams the same goes for her. Lea Seydoux is usually very attractive, not as much in this but she's no Milla Jovovich so don't worry about it. Loved It. See It!!!!
