Review:
We'll if Alien is a truly great horror film, then Aliens is a truly great science fiction film. It might not have the acting ability of the first cast, nor the pure suspenseful, dramatic intensity of the first film. But it does have the nonstop gun shooting, running & hiding for your life while being hunted down by a million evil aliens trapped inside of a space station on a planet nowhere near humanity which always adds to the greatness of the film. You have a completely different style of actors filling out the cast, most of whom bring a comedic aspect to their role, some of them a little more than others. Bill Paxton has an unforgettable role, with one of my personal favourite movie lines of all time: "It's Game Over Man, Game Over". Michael Biehn is a great actor to put in your lead action role during the era. Has great presence, good ability to be the man in charge & can handle the load of an action film. Lance Henriksen, much like his predecessor Ian Holm, does an awesome job as the android on board. Paul Reiser is also great at bringing some comedy but he also brings the "team bitch" aspect to the film. Then we get to Carrie Henn. I guess if your only going to do one film in your entire career, lets make it this one. She went on to become a substitute teacher believe it or not. Now I understand that the reason for putting her in the film was to give a mother like quality to Ripley's character to show that she isn't just a bad ass, ass kicking chick. Also if you watch the director's cut, it shows Ripley learning that her daughter who she left behind before the first movie, has since died of old age. So obviously this was the reason behind having Newt. But to be honest I really didn't like the aspect of having her there. I know the importance of it, but I guess just personally I'm not a huge fan of children in horror or science fiction films. Also too, considering that she was non-trained actress, I really didn't think she was as incredible as most people build her up to be. Then you have Sigourney Weaver, just as powerful, intense & absolutely bad ass as ever. But is it just me or did 7 years between films really not do her any justice? If they tried to make her age over a fictional 57 years, they couldn't have done a better job than what nature did itself. I really cannot believe how unattractive she had become by this film. Overall, it's fucking awesome, I love it, also one of my favourite movies of all time!!!
