Review:
Shepard gives a very solid performance of a role portrayed by Paul Newman yet in a very different light. While Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid (1969) had moments of uplifting dialogue and action, this film portrays Cassidy, now calling himself Blackthorn as a much older, worn down man living in Bolivia many years after his well known escapades in the American west. Having hidden from the law and men looking to collect the bounty on his head, he becomes a rancher in the mountains where he finds himself home sick after discovering of the death of his one true love back home. Stephen Rae gives an excellent performance as both a younger man tracking down Butch Cassidy & Sundance Kid throughout Central & South America but also as broken down drunken older self who does not believe that both Sundance & Cassidy were shot dead many years earlier. The movie it's self is set across the beautiful deserts and small towns of the Bolivian frontier during the early 1900's. Directed by Spanish director Mateo Gil (Vanilla Sky, The Sea Inside) the film has high levels of drama, action and has a strong ending showing the extreme measures and trials the new frontiers brought to the lives of many men. Ending was AWESOME!
