Synopsis:
Armando Alvarez has lived and worked
on his father's ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch
encounters financial difficulties, Armando's younger brother Raul shows
up with his new fiancée, Sonia. It seems that Raul's success as an
international businessman means the ranch's troubles are over as he
pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando
falls for Sonia, and Raul's business dealings turn out to be less than
legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with
Mexico's most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza.
Review:
Will Farrell. Love him or hate him, he's still making movies. Maybe not always as big budget & box office successes as he did a few years ago but he's still doing his thing. My original review of this movie was "One of Will Farrell's asshole friends said "Ha I bet you couldn't do an entire movie speaking only in Spanish" & then he accepted the challenge. Growing up in Canada for the most part they only teach you French, then once your slightly older you can choose to learn Spanish. I dropped out of French after grade 9. Never took Spanish. I'm fairly certain that Will's knowledge of Spanish is as limited as me. Even though Will has a limited amount of Spanish under his belt, it doesn't effect his performance at all. They obviously worked the script & dialogue around it, even incorporating a running joke into it. The rest of the cast do a perfect job of doing exactly what they are suppose to be doing. A movie done to look like a Spanish soap opera. Very funny. A very different film for everyone involved. If your a fan of puppetering, dramatic camera turns or Nick Offerman then this film is 100% for you. OR if you love obscure professional wrestlers in films you would never think of them being in (Mondo Guerrero).
